imagin8 re-brands to Brightlabs
After a two year search for a new name, imagin8 will be re-branding to Brightlabs as of 6th April, 2009. Read on for an in-depth explanation of why we chose the name and what plans are in store for the future.
Why Brightlabs?
It wasn’t an easy decision. The process of coming up with a new name and identity was the subject of many a meeting over two years. There were several criteria applied in the selection process, the most important being the availability of the trademark and relevant web domains. Of course, the identity needed to be professional, enduring and consistent with our strategic direction as competition within the industry continues to increase. As the company forges ahead, our focus will be on researching and developing online software that enhance our clients’ abilities to use the internet to make their business more efficient. We felt the name needed to reflect this emphasis on product innovation while capturing the emerging culture of a company driven by a smart, committed and loyal team.

What does the logo mean?
The logo was designed to capture the essential elements of the brand and its values through its shape and colours. The light blue was chosen because of its connections to the company’s past corporate colours and its association with the IT sector. The dark blue and yellow were suitable complements to the 'Bright' name. The shape of the mark, derived by twisting a circle at three equidistant points around its circumference, traces a line that has no start or finish. The shape is also similar to a propeller, which suggests forward motion.
Why did we re-brand?
Our success and growth over the past 5 years has necessitated a review of our existing brand to determine whether it had the right qualities to carry us forward as we shoot for greater heights. ‘Imagin8’ is a name we have come to love, but, unfortunately, it does not give a clear insight into our strategic direction nor are we are able to protect it through a trademark. Whenever we tell people we are changing our name, the first reaction is, "What?! We love the name!" Well, we love the name too, but being unable to register the trademark has meant that we cannot protect the name from anyone else trying to call themselves imagin8.
Furthermore, while the name sounds great, spelling 'Imagin8' often confuses people. Some variations include 'Imaginate', 'Imagine8' and 'Image8'.
So with all this in mind we thought it would be a good time to refresh our look and feel, and come up with a name that reflects our strategic direction and differentiates us from our competitors.
What will this mean to you?
- The new brand won’t change the way we operate in any way
- We are still be the same imagin8 team, and you can contact us using the same details
- We will inform you of our new email and website addresses
- New billing information will be sent to your accounts department
What about access to systems like iCMS and iCampaign?
You will still be able to access these systems from their current addresses. Eventually, the names of these systems will also be refreshed, but we thought we would start with changing just imagin8's name before we moved on to other things — one at a time!
Will the new brand mean any new products or services?
Yes, there will be a few exciting new products; this includes the highly anticipated Training and Induction Management System and the new Membership Management System. Also slated for release this year are new project management and billing management tools.
One of the challenges with growing larger is creating a quality assurance process that can evolve with your organisation and meet the needs of your clients. As part of ensuring all clients receive quality outcomes, Brightlabs Pty Ltd is currently undergoing Quality Assurance to the internationally recognised AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 standard.
As part of the QA process, Brightlabs has also instigated a new QA system called ISIS, designed specifically for achieving higher quality outcomes in the web and interactive industry.
