Brightlabs are proud to announce the release of version 2.4 of iCMS!

Today sees the release of iCMS 2.4 - the newly revised and improved version of Brightlabs' popular Content Management System. Over the past several months, the Brightlabs team has been steadily working away at making new additions, improvements, fixes and compatibility changes to ensure that the users of our system get the best user experience possible.

Accessing the new system

To log into the new version of iCMS, you simply have to go to the existing URL for the system - http://icms.brightlabs.com.au and login with your existing username and password.

Things to remember

The most important thing to remember is that you still edit and add content in the same way as you did in version 2.3. Although there are a number of new features, you still choose between creating and editing an item, category or document.

Version 2.4 has been built with compatibility in mind, but to ensure you get the best user experience when working with the system, we suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of your browser of Firefox or Internet Explorer. You can download the newest versions of these browsers here:

New features

Form and Survey Builder - The Form and Survey Builder is an exciting new Module for iCMS that was built to allow users to create their own customised website forms that can be easily added to a page and edited at any time. The Form Builder allows users to create custom fields, drop down menus, check boxes and other various options for web forms. Once a form is created, it can then be easily edited at any time with the intuitive form editor screen that allows you to move, edit and delete elements of the form at the click of a button.


Login Screen - The first time you log in to version 2.4 of iCMS, you will notice the new login screen for the system which now reflects our new identity as Brightlabs.
From the login screen, you can access further information about new features, book training sessions with Brightlabs, and update your browser to the newest version available to ensure you receive the best possible user experience when working with iCMS.

Version 2.4 also includes a variety of key browser compatibility improvements which are aimed at making the user experience more enjoyable.

Other New Features

Content Scheduling

Content scheduling is a feature that has been available for some time in iCMS, but 2.4 sees some new improvements that make it an even more useful tool for your website. One of the main differences that you will notice at first is the ability to set multiple events for your page. Previously, scheduling was restricted to one event at a time, but now you can set multiple events to do different tasks so you can plan far ahead into the future without having to constantly update scheduled events – just select the dates on the calendar and let iCMS take care of the rest.

Another feature of the new Content Scheduler is the user’s ability to set multiple actions for the one event. For any given event that you have scheduled, you can choose to automate the page status (Enabled, Hidden, and Disabled), move the page to a different location on your website, and you also have the option of changing the page template.

Custom Fields

Custom fields are a new feature that allows you to choose what fields you would like to appear on the Page Content editor screen. This means that if your website has specific custom functionality, we can create unique fields that are appropriately titled for your needs when editing your pages.

Tree View - Bulk Changes

Traditionally in iCMS you only had the ability to bulk delete and password profile pages in the tree view. In 2.4, you can now change the status or templates of multiple pages at once, which eliminates the need for tedious manual changes to individual pages.

Javascript file uploading

The new file uploader in iCMS now allows for small files to be uploaded from the same page! This makes uploading documents much easier as it means everything can be done from the same screen, without having to jump back and forth for the different sized documents, saving you time

Browser Compatibility

Thanks to client feedback and a new and extensive testing system, Brightlabs has been able to improve the performance and compatibility of iCMS. With the release of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8, we had to ensure that version 2.4 was fully functional with this significant browser update. With Internet Explorer 6 approaching its 8th year since its release, it lacks the efficiency and compatibility of Microsoft’s more recent browser releases (version 7 and 8). We are hoping that users will upgrade to at least version 7 over the next few months as IE6 compatibility will be phased out in our website design process in the near future.

Along with compatibility changes for Microsoft’s browsers, we have also improved some minor bug issues with Mozilla’s Firefox browser. In version 2.3, some users may have found hyper linking in Firefox wasn’t functioning properly when using the content editor. This has now been fixed, offering a much faster and more efficient user experience.

So remember to update your browser so you get the best user experience possible!

How to get the most out of iCMS

Here are a few simple things you can do to enjoy all that iCMS has to offer:

• Get familiar with the system - Log in and have a play around. As you will notice, most things will look the same, but as they say... "Practice makes perfect"!
• The new help document - Have a look at the new iCMS help document! It has up-to-date information on iCMS, and will often have the answer to many of the common questions that you will have. It also goes through some of the new features in iCMS such as the various modules that you may be interested in for the future.
