Client Side Browser Support
As many companies have started to phase out Internet Explorer 6 support, Brightlabs will also be doing the same. Read on to find out what software we will be supporting and why...
In line with other companies like Google and Apple, Brightlabs will be phasing out support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 as well as other older browsers that are no longer supported by their own manufacturers. Brightlabs will continue to support Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, and the latest versions of Firefox and Safari. In addition, we will now support the latest version of Google Chrome. Why do companies drop their support for older browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0?
It’s been about 8 years now since the release of IE6 and a lot has happened since then; feel free to also read the article in this month’s edition of Enlighten on IE6 and its woes. While all versions of Internet Explorer seem to have a high level of security issues, European governments are advising residents to “ditch Internet Explorer”, as IE6 is the one with the most security issues. Most people have moved on to newer versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, or other browsers, thus the effort and therefore costs involved to continue to cater for archaic versions of browsers isn’t worth the investment.
The above applies to users looking at your website. At the moment the content editor we use in iCMS is only supported for Internet Explorer and Firefox. We are looking at various options to upgrade the editor we use so all the above browsers will be supported in the next release.
What does this mean for you?
Any work we do from now on will only be developed and tested to work correctly in the above browsers. If you wish to include other browser support, we can cater for these needs but this may be at an additional cost. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
